======holiday - meeting friends ...======
Tuesday, July 28, 2009. We are on a holiday this year where we
meet old friends. So far, this is just great. We haven't seen each
other for years, and still we just need minutes to go back into
a mode where we resonate and where we get into a real interaction.
Clearly, we have to talk about years of experiences, and we can
spend hours together and talk about this and that, about our
professions, about the country we live in, about our children, about
our marriage and much more.

Today, more and more families change towns or countries. Where we
live in the south of England there are many foreigners from mainland
Europe, from China or Malaysia or India or from the US. Our old
friends from school or University are today scattered all over the
world, some live in Russia, others in Munich or the south of
Germany, others are in America or in England. Of course, there are
also some who have stayed, which is also great, when we come back
into our old homeland.
It is also very interesting to exchange experiences with faith.
We have several friends who are missionaries and they can talk about
their experiences with their particular service in a foreign culture.
They are professionals, but when it comes to our relation to Jesus
and our life with him we are all both layman and experts at the same
time. Missionaries change their country and their culture - that
is something which we have done as well, though not for the purpose
of Christian mission but within science. But many of the
experiences are just the same.
Talking with others about faith can be extremely interesting and
inspiring. We had several days and some evenings with a glass of
wine now where we
exchanged our recent experiences with churches, with growth in
faith, with challenges and ill-nesses. We can give each other a lot,
just by our view, by our reflection, by the things which happened
in our life. Faith is not something we live only in church on
Sunday morning, nothing which would be relevant only to us personally.
Faith is a matter of community with the Lord - and with others. It
is a matter of friendship with the Lord - and with our human friends.
It is a matter of society and community.
