Taking steps into the unknown is one big dream of mankind. We have always been discoverers. People have tried to find new land, new continents, new possibilities. In the 15th or 16th century the discoveries were made in the Americas. Then, during the 17th and 18th century many natural phenomena have been found. In the 19th century we started to explore the industrial possibilities, the 20th century brought a full range of new things, with computers and networks as one key new driving force. {{2009_08_03.jpg }} When we find our personal faith, it is also a step into the unknown. We might think that we know all about faith - since churches have been there for many centuries now. We might think that all this is clear. Other people find their own fear when they think about faith: where might God lead me, if I go to him? What will happen if I start to believe? God might disturb my little world ... faith appears to be the big step forward into a world beyond my personal control. Faith is a step forward, and many things are unknown when we approach God. But it is at the same time a step into a very well known territory, since Jesus is the centre of faith and he is well-known from the biblical texts. We can have trust in him, and that is the beginning of faith. Thus, faith is something which can be very reasonable, it can be a decision driven by reason, not only by emotions. God wants to lead us on. He wants to renew us personally. The bible speaks about someone who comes to faith to become "a new creation". There must be something new, which was unknown before, and it is. God's idea is to make us discoverers in his kingdom. We are called to discover love, trust, truth. We are called to discover dedication, a new existence which also means a new style of living.
