======Wonder 3 - the Power of God ...======
Wednesday, August 26, 2009. A week about the topic "wonder". We need to
understand the power of God. Wonders are carried out by God by the power
of God. How does his power work?
God speaks, and it happens. It is a main pattern of the bible: the
power of God is so large, that everything is possible when God speeks.
"Let there be light" describes the creation of light. There are other
things where God spoke which are part of our daily experiences.

God said:
Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over
the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that
moves on the earth. (Genesis 1, 28) We all experience daily what this means.
We all know love, we know man and women, we know the attraction of the other
gender. Many of us know how great it is to have children - and how difficult
it can be when we need to fully fill the role of a parent with all its
responsibilities. But there is not an option not to be attracted, not to love,
not to be fruitful. Mankind cannot do other than to be fruitful and to multiply.
And it is not painful to do all this. By natural forces we are driven, we
are attracted, we just WANT to do exactly this.
The second part of God's words concern our human rule over this planet. Again,
the sentence describes our daily reality. Mankind has filled the earth. The
global world today makes this particularly clear to us. We rule over all the
other living things on this earth. We want to do this, we have mind and
hands to develop all the tools and things necessary to do exactly what the
sentence expresses. Someone might object and say that the sentence is just
another form of description of reality. But the bible wants to tell us more
here. It wants to show us the power of the living God. If he speaks, things
happen. And if we want to know how things happen, we just need to look
around. We are in the middle of the effects of the words of the Lord!
The bible tells many stories where we cannot directly observe how things happen.
Jesus speaks to a tree, and it is withered shortly after. He speaks to a
storm and it calms down. He speaks to some human and he is healed. The power
of God is so universal, that anything he says will take place. It can be open
to our eyes and ears, but it can also be hidden in its mechanisms.
Everything is possible to God. And he knows everything. He knows all the pain
and difficulties which we have. He knows the millions today who are hungry.
He knows the injustice of our economic systems. He knows all the decisions of
individuals who drive the economy on this planet. He knows all the illnesses
and problems we have. He can be there any time - the apostle Paul preached
God to be around us where ever we are. So we can ask him to be the powerful
God in our life, to be there with his possibilities, with his wonders. There
is definitely no limit to his possibilities. One word and things will change.
But we also have to understand that he has deep goals, that his powers are
not on our command, that he put us into this time and this society to live
in it. It is a continuing challenge to experience the limits of this world
knowing the power of the creator. It is a challenge which can help us to
learn more about God and his character, about his goals and his way to think
and act. It is the challenge to talk to him and to listen to him, to ask
him to interfer and to wait for him, to pray and to follow his godly plans
and tasks. It is a worthy challenge for everyone of us, every day!
