What is your relation to the youth? You might be young or you might be older ... what do you feel and think when you are surrounded by young people age 13 or 15, 17 or 19? {{2010_05_19.jpg }} **I like the youth** Let me put it straight: I like the youth! It is even more: I love the youth. I look at young people with great sympathy, my heart seems to jump when I see young people around me. Mostly, I like the way our young people talk and chat. I like the way they dress and the things they do. Of course, there are also things which I do not like, now and then. Some words would be better unspoken, some actions never done. But there is a lot of positivity in our youth ... Young people have a kind of unconcern, which is fantastic. It does not mean that they would not think about our world or our nature. But they do it in a way which is not completely burdened by disillusions or by defeat. They want to play, they want to explore, they want to have fun, they want to learn - yes, they want. I am surrounded by young people, many times of the day. We have children ourselves, and on some days there are 4, 6 or 8 friends of our kids in the garden or in the house. When I go into the subway in the morning, I am surrounded by school children, smaller and larger crowds of teens ... and I am fascinated again and again. {{ 2010_05_19_2.jpg}} **How to get involved?** I ask myself, how I could get involved in youth work or youth activities. It has not been my traditional area of activity. Somehow I never got into it, due to a busy schedule of science and conferences, of research visits and board meetings. But when I look into my heart, I see a clear wish: get involved with the youth! I am quite sure that God shares my love to the youth, or as I should better say: I share his love. Jesus made it very clear that God loves kids. He loves them deeply and they always have access to his heart. The same is true for the youth, for the young humans searching their way, exploring their talents, trying to find their place. How to get involved?
