======Whom can I trust? ...======
Wednesday, Nov 23, 2010. Politics can be a difficult business. There are
political parties, where people with similar attitudes or similar basic
opinions join their forces to find good solutions for the community.
But when you want to have a career in this field, it is quite tricky. Whom
can you trust? The others want to have a nice career as well. But you need
them, you need trust to some extent at least ...

**Trust is needed everywhere ...**
In science the situation seems different. Here, the task is to find out as much
as possible about a particular field or topic. We are looking into the world,
into phenomena, we try to understand, to analyse, to model, to describe, to
change, control, influence and build.
But in science you have a similar phenomenon as in politics. There are many
scientists, and only a few of them can get a permanent position in science. In
times of economical crisis, many departments have to reduce their staff, and
there is a significant element of competition. Whom can you trust? Everyone
tries to get as many grants as possible, and the whole system is getting close
to collapse, since salaries are not high and the demand on time and effort
is high. Trust is needed, otherwise you would not be able to work with others.
But how much can you really trust people? Good question, you might say!
We might also talk about business, even about one company only. Today we seem
to be far away from an environment of responsibility. It is more about getting
along at all, surviving the next month in terms of liquidity and sales. Is this
an environment for personal trust? The statements of leaders talk about
lack of skilled workers - but when you look deeper into this, there is no lack
at all, they just try to keep prices of labor low. There is some need for this,
the competition is strong. But still: is this a basis for trust?

**Can you trust God? ...**
Can you trust God? It is a key question - and you might find many examples of
events immediately, which make you suspicious. How can there be so many difficult
things? Where is God? What is God doing?
We are approaching Christmas soon, and we will be talking about Jesus, about
his birth and life. In this guy God wants to show that he is trustworthy indeed.
In Jesus he wants to prove his trustworthiness.
Trust is always an active step. We need to say: yes. We need to move forward and
put our trust in someone or something. It is the same with God, without our will
to trust and our trust in him, it will be difficult to experience what it means
and to see that he is in fact trustworthy. God, come into our life and help us to
understand how holy and trustworthy you are. Help us to do our little steps, you
have done yours in Jesus long ago and since then again and again ...!
