======Everyone needs to live ...======
Thursday, Mar 1, 2012. What is the general approach to the basic questions
of life on our planet? We have been talking about sustainability in the
last days - different aspects of it. But you will probably say: it is
a luxuary problem. First, everyone needs to live!

**Reasonable life for every individual ...**
Here we are exactly at a core question of sustainability. Everyone nees to live!
We need a reasonable life for every individual. Why do we want sustainability?
Because we want a reasonable life for everyone today and tomorrow!
That seems to be abstract, but in fact it touches basically everything we do,
from our personal finances, our job, our interaction with colleagues and co-workers,
the way we carry out our work, ... up to our relationship to neighbours and
other people in our neighbourhood!
For example: in science everyone wants to live. That means that all people
professionally working in science should have a reasonable chance to carry out
their job in good or at least satisfactory conditions. If we give funding only
to the top 10%, what about the others? Should we let them suffer? Should we keep
them short of funding? That is not a good idea, they will not do better science
if only 10% get reasonable funding.

Many of our systems are not sustainable. We set up rules which will lead to
unbalances and finally to
a breakdown of a part of our system, if not of the whole system. A smarter approach
would be to give everyone a reasonable chance and reasonable ressources, and the
very good ones perhaps a little more to reward them and support quality. It is
quite a challenge to set up a wise and balanced system rewarding quality but also
supporting a broad variety of different approaches!
God loves every individual
From the New Testament we know that God loves every individual. Jesus dies for
mankind, but it is not just the whole collection of people he dies for, but for
every individual. The gospels show us that forgiveness is given to individuals.
It is people with a name and with history, which are described in the whole
bible, not abstract people, but concrete people.
Jesus wants a good life for everyone. He tells us again and again to support
each other, to love each other, to serve each other. Those with strong gifts are
asked to be strong servants. He himself presents himself as a key servant. Serving
is God's main attitude, the attitude of deep love.
Everyone needs to life. In the New Testament that is reflected by the need
to give to those who are in need, to go where people are lonely, to help and
to protect those who cannot help themselves. It is only smart, to learn from
these commands, a society will not flourish if people are not supporting each
other and run a social system which allows everyone to live. Yes, God loves
every individual!
