We had the discussion about "what is good" this weekend. Someone raised the question: will things be good? What is good, health, friends, money? Is it not something different? {{2012_03_19.jpg }} **What is good? ...** There is a very personal perspective in this. I might feel good in some circumstances and feel bad in others. Is it my feelings which tell me what is good in my life? Our body and mind is a complex structure, which generates responses to our overall situation. Feelings are our judgement about this situation, good and bad feelings! Of course, we also use our reason. We argue. We apply categories to judge what is good and what is bad. We have goals and there are needs for our life. We need to eat, need to sleep, need to talk and exchange. We also need to do something, need to be active, need to work. When our needs are not met, we cannot feel good, and it is not good when we are starving, when we lack important basic things! But is that the end? Is life good when all basic needs are met? When we are fed, when we have a place to sleep ... is that fulfilment? Is there a difference between "fulfilled" and "good"? {{ 2012_03_19_2.jpg}} **A thrilling adventure ...** Jesus once was called "good master", but he replied that that only God is good. Someone tried to adulate him, and that strategy failed. Also, the whole mission of Jesus is different from what you would call "good". He is the saviour, the lamb of God, his only son. So why should you call him good, that term does not fit. He is much more! The New Testament is full of remarks about good lifestyle. We need to have a closer look into that - it needs some time to understand. Without daily practice, you cannot fully grasp what it means. Are you ready to go ahead and practice a good lifestyle? Good does not mean boring. Good does not mean adapted. Good means something much deeper, much more exciting, a thrilling adventure with the Lord! We often call things good, which are far less good than other things which we do not see at all, which are much better. Our measuring rods are not straight, they are twisted. But there is a chance to get into a different mode, and see what is good, and what is not! Let us try to open our eyes ...!
