======Responsibility for Problems ...======
Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012. I had a little discussion yesterday about one of our
main scientific targets in our division. Who is responsible for what step? There
are different units which need to work together, but everyone is completely
busy with his particular tasks and problems - coordination is challenging!

**Who is responsible? Who is the cause? ...**
In our company there was some internal problem last month. We suddenly had a lot
of traffic on one of our racks and the cause was not clear at all. We did not
change anything ... We had something like this in a smaller form some month
ago and had clearly asked our rack administrator to install scripts which check
the traffic on a daily basis to avoid high costs. He did not do that and now
we have to pay for his failure. We do not know the cause. The responsibility is clear,
but we cannot do much any more and financially the owners pay, even if employees
mess up.
Who is responsible? Sometimes you could also ask: who is to be blamed? Often,
there are teams of people who should take care. In a big organisation different
units sometimes try to blame the others. The discussion about who should take
care of what is an important question and may cause a lot of trouble.
We could also turn the question around: what goals do we have and how can we
work together in an optimal way to reach the goals. Every one should take part
in that with his or her competences.

**Who is responsible for the evil things? ...**
Our daughter brought a musical CD on the way back from our holiday trip last
week, which asks the same question in the regime of faith. She is preparing a
musical for teens about Job, which takes place in autumn in the Frankfurt region.
The question of the book of Job is about responsibility for evil. Who is to
be blamed for the evil things which can happen in this world?
The story of Job is quite fascinating. It starts with the devil talking to God. He
says to the Lord: your servant is only faithful, since you provide good things
for him. Let him experience trouble, and he will leave you. But God does not believe
that - and the devil is allowed to cause trouble and test Job.
The story of Job tells us that evil can happen even without our fault. It can happen
even when we are fully just. This biblical book is not a full theory about evil, it
is just ONE story, which contains many important questions and remarks. But it
touches the question of responsibility and provides a surprising answer to what
might be the cause of illness and trouble!
