You might be sitting somewhere in an office or in your home right now and wonder: who am I? What am I worth? What is the meaning of my life? Reading the gospel of Luke, I ran into a passage which gives answers to these questions this morning ... {{2013_07_16.jpg }} **Worth more than many sparrows ...** Jesus is teaching his followers and listeners about life, the true life. He is teaching about riches, about faith and acknowledging him as the Christ. And the examples he uses are highly fascinating. Let us have a look ...: 4 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, {{ 2013_07_16_2.jpg}} **the very hairs of your head are all numbered** **. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Luke 12: 4-7) Jesus is talking about how careful God is. He is talking about how much tiny details are important for the holy God. Not one of the sparrows is forgotten by the eternal Lord. God cares about every animal, every tine individual life within his creation. **How to imagine God's care? ...** The first examples which Jesus chooses is very practical. We usually do not care about some animals. We do not care about sparrows. But God knows every single one. This first example just shows how much more careful and how much more caring God is than we usually are. We need to learn and get to know his infinitly detailled care! The second example of Jesus is putting it to the extreme. We have usually more than 100.000 hairs on our head. Everyone of us! But Jesus now tells us that all of them are numbered. God cares so much about us, that he even numbers each of our hairs! That is unbelievable. Jesus wants to lead us into a renewed attitude about care - and about ourselves. God takes us very serious, as he does with any of the people around us. We are called to follow him, and discover our worth. We are called to discover the value in all the people around us. We are called to discover the deep love which he has, paired with his truth and wisdom and power. We are called to discover Christ!
