======Who is helping? ...======
Thursday Jan 29, 2015. Sometimes we need help in our life. It is interesting
that this happens to everyone, now and then. We are not always completely in
control of our life, of the circumstances which determine our fate. There are so
many things we cannot control at all!

**We need help ...**
There are those of us who pretend to be in complete control. It is a kind of attitute,
it is an interpretation of reality. But does it fit? Yes, we are given a brain, we
are given intelligence. And there are the natural laws, there is a reality we can
influence. We can build. We can work. That does not mean we would be in control, though!
It is an important step towards human maturity to see that we are not in control.
We are on the receiving end of life - even if we are responsible for many things,
for many people. Even if we own billions. All can be gone so quickly! And day by
day we are dependent on others, on their attention, on their words, on their actions,
on their love, their truth, their help. It would be a big illusion, not to see our
dependencies.
There can also be fear in our life. When we are not in control, we might try to
build big walls. We might try to protect ourselves, to retract. Or some go and try
to fight. There are so different reaction patterns, which we can use to deal with
our situation.

**Life is about trust ...**
Let us look at what the bible suggests. How should we deal with the situation? The
bible points us to the Lord, to the eternal God. It calls us kids - and Jesus even
says that we need to become kids, to find life. Life is not about control, but about
trust. There is one who is in control, and he is a great helper. Let us listen
to what the songwriter writes in Psalm 121:
1 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
(Psalm 121)
To me this is a great miracle again and again: God is a helper. What is our image
of the Lord? Is he the commander? Is he the big master? It is only a small part of
what God is and who God is. He presents himself as the great helper. He shows
himself as the main servant. He invites us to a community, where service is a great
privilege. He helps ...
