The Attacks in Munich ...
Saturday, July 23, 2016. We are shocked by yet another shooting and killing in Munich last night. So many of our cities all over the world have been touchted by an outbreak of hatred. It does not matter, where you are - Europe or America or Africa, death can be everywhere, hatred and mindless killing. What to think about it? How to deal with it? What is its origin and where do we all go?
Origins and Humans …
Much of the killing today is linked to the development in the Middle East. The environment there does support violence, and it moves everywhere in the world, either by individual people being influenced by radical ideologies, or by planned attacks by various military forces and movements.
It is important to see that violence develops in many places when humans feel full of anger about their own personal situation, it can happen on the background even of Christian faith - in contrast to what Jesus has told us to do, to love one another and support one another in truth and practical help. Violence is a part of humanity as it is currently, it is a part of everyone of us - even if we manage to keep it under control under normal circumstances. And we all feel the anger about the situation, about the dead and the killing. We feel the need to do something and to increase security in our democratic and free countries!
Jesus told us that human life needs salvation. It needs renewal. That applies to us all - to those in the Middle East as well as to those in the West, to the Asians and to the Australians as well. The renewal cannot come alone by rules, but it needs to be carried out by the holy spirit through the power of God himself. We need to enter the realm of grace, since all is grace, all is created by the eternal God, and he gives to us strength and intelligence and many skills and talents, but first of all deep reaching love and support.
The deas, the Injured, the Living …
I am mourning the dead and the injured, in Munich, but also in Nice, in Paris, in many towns in the West, in the Middle East, in Africa … I am mourning the black people and the white people, those who were just random victims, and those who died in duty.
Democratic states have developed a healthy relationship between police forces, border control, jurisdiction and executive power. We have a healthy relationship between the military forces, our politicians and political institutions and the normal citizens. Let us show that a balanced and democratic solution to the hatred is possible, and that we are capable of solving the problems by actions on all layers of society. Let us increase and enable our police and border control, by efficient rules and laws which help to do the job properly. And let us work on personal relationships to all those who have come into the country, to learn the language and to get to know and love a free and democratic society, where you can come to faith your way, by your own free decision. Nothing less is needed!
When death strikes, it is usually time for a break. When hatred breaks out, it is time to withstand. The day after this killing, we take a break, and will analyse what happened. We go into prayer, seeking the word of the Lord into our life - to those who live, and seeking his guidance to help and to prepare our action and response. (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
