Does Faith have its Space? …

Does faith have its space today? What is its role in our life? Many people today live without God, at least without an explicit reference to God. They follow their daily routine, with sleep and work, with family, kids or parents, with food and drink, with sports and leisure, with various activities. Where is God? What is his role in all of this?

Everyone of us gets into those special situations, the highlights of or life. We face limit experiences. We face particular emotional events. That can be the birth of a child. Or the start of school, the start of a new part of our life. It can be when we get through some exam. It can be when we start a new job. When we date someone the first time, when we fall in love. It can be the day of our marriage, or the day of the first, second or third child. It can be particular special occasions, fantastic nature we experience, or some performance, some piece of art.

There are also times of trouble. There are times where we get into fights or unpleasant experiences. There are days or years of illness. There is the day when some friend or loved one dies. There are these events which show us that the daily routine is only a part of our life - there is the beginning and the end.

Faith in all of it! …

Where is God in all of this? Is faith something for the nice Sunday mornings? Or is it consolation for the times of trouble? What is the role of faith? Is it basically an ethical guidance? Or just some generic framework for us to live - God as the first mover?

The biblical idea of faith is much deeper. It is much wider! It is touching all what we are, what we do, what we think, what we feel, what we decide. The bible talks about God, who created the heaven and the earth, who made all living beings in it. He knows all about us, and he wants to be with us on all levels of our life. Faith is an exciting adventure, which touches the daily routine as well as the special occasions. It touches and penetrates our whole existence. It provides a framework, but transcends this framework at the same time, giving an eternal perspective to our life.

We want to explore this faith, we want to learn about this perspective, in the coming year 2018. We want to look at all its parts, want to touch all the layers of our life, step by step. Let us explore faith, explore life with a living God! (Roland Potthast) ... further texts
