Worship 4 - Made for Worship ...

Friday, June 25, 2010. Why do people worship? Why is it that in this world there are so many religions which worship God - one God or many Gods? What is the background of human behavior?

Man is made for worship

Some people think that reason is going to take over. Western world is to some extent secular today. Religion has been pushed out of the public life. But this seems to be only a very superficial judgement. If we look deeper we see that many people continue with some kind of religious behavior, with some type of worship. Sometimes it is centered around God, but many people center their life around other things, around activities or around institutions, even around cultic patterns. They behave similar to those who worship God.

But there is a good reason why people continue to worship, even if they have given up the idea of God as the creator of the earth. They worship since mankind has been made for worship, has been made for trust, has been made for a life with God, who superseeds our immediate environment. We look for things beyond reason, beyond natural science, beyond our small life, because these things exist and because we have been created to live with the eternal dimension!

We will not be able to come to final conclusions about human nature. That is a very far reaching question. But we should think about the position described in the bible, that God has made men and women to be with him, to live with an eternal God and father and to worship him.

God deserves worship

Why should we worship God? Because God deserves worship. He IS great. He IS fantastic. Only he is pure enough that we can pray to him and worhip him. Only he is powerful enough to do what ever he wants. He is humble enough to fully live with and use his power. He is a true servent. Only a true servant can be a true king. God is so breathtaking, that worship really makes sense!

We are made for worship. God is not made. He has been and is and will be. He is the beginning and the end. We are made in his image, as his reflection, as those who have their own will and their own dignity … just to reflect his dignity and deity and wonders. When we shine in his light, our worship starts to grow … true worship.

We are made to reflect God's splendor. We are made to reflect his love. We are made to reflect his truthfulness. He is the Lord. When we start to become light in his light, we start a life full of worship. We cannot make this, we can only live in his light. Like flowers in the sun. Like the grapes on the vine. Like jars which are filled by him. We are made to worship him. ... more texts
