Inspiration ...

Friday, March 4, 2016. What is giving you inspiration? Some of us take time of and go into nature, and they return inspired and refreshed. Others do some sports, or go sailing or skiing. Some prefer hiking in the mountains. What is it that is helping you to renew yourself, to refresh your mind?

Foreign Towns, Parks, Museums …

I love to go around the world and see different things. It is just great to visit another country, to go to the US, for example, and spend time there. Or to go to Japan. Currently, I am in Tokyo, and just had time yesterday to spend some hours in the imperial garden. Spring was coming, the first blossoms at trees, and people standing around trees with rose flowers, admiring nature in the middle of a very big town.

Then, I took time to look into the science museum. In Tokyo that is more made for kids, and many school kids were running around, jumping and shouding, trying the different physical or technological exhibitions, most of them interactive. It was just nice to watch them, to think about what is displayed, to think about our technological culture. I love to step back, review things and see where we got today, after about 500 years of industrial revolution.

Currently, I am sitting in a conference of the Japanese science foundation, where big data applications are reviewed and driven forward. It gives me another type of inspiration to see how the Japanese research funding relates to to the American (DARPA) or the European Framework 7 programmes, and who gets what type of funding to pursue world leading research currently.

God's Inspiration …

You might be fascinated by our modern society, and I am. But I can tell you that I am much more fascinated by something which is not dependent on modern technology, on air plane travel or human positions. The role of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament staye the most inspiring thing I know. Being filled by the Holy Spirit is something which is available to each and every human on the planet, where ever you are, just through faith in Christ Jesus. Listen to the famous scripture in Galatians 5:

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5, 22ff)

I would claim that the only sustainable type of inspiration is that which comes from Jesus through his spirit. All other inspirations will lead you astray if you are not kept alife by the holy spirit and if you are not guided by him on the path of life! I believe that he can guide us into many fields, including science, and he does.
