Value of Humans ...

Tuesday, August 23, 2011. What is the main priority for my life? It might be easy to ask this question, when I am well and young. For the young lions the world seems to be at our fingertips. When you are strong, you can work out plans and hope to be able to carry them out! But what if all this seems completely out of range?

The Value of our Life …

We need to talk about the value of our life. What is this value based on? Are we valuable because we can do something? Are we valuable because we have a lot of goods? Are we valuable because we are intelligent, because we are creative? This is what our societies tend to teach us. That is what they practice … and we are sometimes believing it. We believe that value is given by what we do, what we have, what we are.

Illnesses can sometimes point us to a more adequate attitude towards value. When we are ill, we loose our power to do things. When we are bound to our bed, we cannot carry out our plans. Illnesses bring us to a state where we cannot do any more. Is our value gone when we are ill?

Now you might say, that the value is given by the sum of what we do or achieve during our lifetime. Then, illnesses would not diminish this value, but just bring its increase to zero. One might also say that times of rest are important for creativity (which is definitely true). But is that a good attitude towards value? What about young infants which die, did they not have any value, since they did not achieve anything? What about people who never made a big discovery? Do they have no value? What is the basis of human value in general?

God loves us …

Every human has a huge value. It is not dependent on any action we do. It is not depending on creativity. It is not our wealth which gives us value. Even people who do not know God can acknowledge the surpassing value which humans have. When you look at a human with his body and mind, he is something unbelievable amazing. Valuable beyond imagination!

Christians realize the value of every single person as a result of the creation process. Creation means, that God has created mankind, and he has created and is creating every single person through the processes which he invented: conception and birth. It is him and his love, which gives value to humans. This value can be seen and acknowledged, even in dependently of him. He put his love into the way we are, with our senses, our ability to do things, with our mind, language, reason, music, dance, joy, sadness, …

When we realize the deep value which every human has, this insight will change the way we think and to the preferences we give to different parts and tasks in our life! ... more texts
