When Things Move On ...

Monday, April 16, 2012. Sometimes, there are days when our life seems to be static. Things do not change. Everything seems to be fixed as it is, good or bad. But that can also change quickly!

Plateau or quickly moving river? …

When I look back into the past years, there have always been periods of time, when everything seemed to be set in stone. Life looked like some nice garden in the sun. Things have been static, nothing moved.

That can be good or bad. Perhaps, we live in some house we like. We might have a job we enjoy and want to keep. Or we want to move on, but there are no opportunities. All positions are filled and my own maturity and preparation is perhaps not yet as it is needed for some particular positions.

But then, things suddenly change. It is like history is moving forward, and it touches my own life. Now, life is like a quickly moving river. There is no possibility to keep things static. We need to let go. Suddenly there are new options, new vacancies, new possibilities for my own path. And suddenly things fit, you realize that you have gained a new state of maturity.

God's history with us …

When I look into the New Testament events, life seems to be similar to this. First, they did not have the messiah. Then, suddenly Jesus was there, with his birth in Bethlehem. But for 30 years things went onto a plateau. He lived with mankind, but no one would recognize him. He grew up.

When time was mature, he started to preach. Again, History moved forward. This new state lasted for three years, and the disciples he gathered quickly thought that this is now the new resting state: Jesus on earth as the king of Israel.

But then suddenly things changed again. Jesus was nailed to the cross and died. They started to see him after the resurrection. Is this the new state which lasts? No, he went to heaven and then he sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Again, life changed, our whole perspective on this earth changed.

Where am I today? Am I waiting for change to happen? Or am I in the middle of some of the rapid changes which God has prepared for me? (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
