Tears and Trouble ...

Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Life has a lot of joy, but also a lot of trouble. This is reflected in the biblical books, and in the psalms, the song book of the Old Testament. The psalms are always a great source and inspiration, a great help in times of joy as well as in times of trouble.

The troubles of life …

Perhaps you are fine, and life does not bring troubles for you currently. Then move on to other articles and be thankful. But perhaps you are troubled, there is pain or fear or distress in the middle of your life. Too many humans are deeply troubled this very moment!

The bible knows all our trouble. The psalms reflect our pain and our fear. Yes, there are people who either do not care or even directly work against us or attack us. Jesus himself has experienced all this, on his way to the cross of Calvary.

Problems can take our sleep. The psalmist of Psalm 6 knows this experience. And he asks: how long? How long does it take? Even his life is threatened, what can save him? It is the Lord only, the eternal God, full of steadfast love! Let us read this fantastic psalm:

Psalm 6 …

1 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith.1 A Psalm of David. O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. 2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. 3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord — how long? 4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?

6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. (Psalm 6)

Yes, the Lord can help you in your personal situation. Turn to him, pray to him, and wait for him. David is sure: the Lord has heard his plea. He is certain: the Lord accepts his prayer. That is the experience of a believer, who goes to the Lord in constant prayer. He knows, when his prayer is heard. And he knows, that the Lord will help him. (RWEP) ... more texts
