We need more.

Good morning. Tuesday, Feb 3, 2009. The world religions are vivid! Where ever you go today, you will find some kind of religion being active. I am regularly going to various conferences in Northern America, in Europe and in Asia. And I love people. I like to explore what they believe, how they behave, how they feel and act. And I see clearly the mixture of people who believe in some particular faith in a town, the people who are somehow related, but not really involved, the atheistic people which follow our modern “god is dead” dogmas. There are many different shades and forms of life philosophy - extremely interesting …

It seems to be difficult to destroy faith. On the other hand is has been carried out successfully in various countries, often replacing the classical faith by some kind of special undercover faith - for example inaugurations or dedications have been common in eastern Germany with the “Jugendweihe” (youth dedication) during the communist time. After talking to several people who have been involved or tried to resist it, I would call it a hidden type of religion or “undercover religion”!

What is truth? How can you tell? Is truth only what science says? If you work in science you know better - you get to know the many streams, the discussions, the fights and the methods of science. Of course it is necessary to pay attention to what science finds - science is one of our best tools to explore the world. But it is not the only one and will never be! We need more, we need to look beyond science. Humans need to develop a picture of the world - with purpose and perspective! This is where Jesus starts, providing words of wisdom and clear guidance.
