Friday, Feb 27, 2009. We are discussing the question whether people with faith are better off because God helps them more? Yesterday we have argued for a “no”, since God loves all people regardless of their faith. He wants to give good things to all of them and he also provides challenges and allows bad things to happen to all of them.

But there are also the many promises of God to help his people. God puts a large number of promises on prayer. “Ask, and it shall be given to you”! says Jesus. If God sincerely listens to prayer, it must and will have an effect. How could we doubt that prayer and faith will change the world. Prayer will change history, it will change the path of every single human who starts to pray and it will change the fate of people we pray for. It changes the history of communities and nations! How could it be different?

So are people of faith lucky? Does God help them more? The answer is that God helps them, without doubt. God is there. It is him that does control history, not a blind fate. He might let bad things happen to them, but at the same time he can and will create good things out of the bad actions of humans. God's possibilities and options are much greater than our limited view of our own world and environment.

The key point of faith is not to get some particular thing in life, but to be in the hands of the eternal God, who is a caring and loving being of unbelievable power and possibilities. We are more like little children with our arguments about “I am first, he is first, I have more, he has more”. God aims to make us sensitive for much greater things, for real love, for truth and purpose, for grace and mercy, for responsibility and wisdom. [R.P., Reading, UK]
