Thursday, April 16, 2009. We are living in interesting times. Many things are changing currently. If I consider the various people I know: friends, colleagues, students, collaborators, employees, visitors of our network etc - their experiences are so diverse. Some of our friends are living in a quiet stream of life. Others have been in the turmoil and rapids ever since we know them. In the middle of a global economic crisis many are thrown out of their well-established and well-set domains. Others never entered such a state of life. Some of us - researchers with global range - tend to change the country again and again.

The generation of our parents was more steady than it would be given to us. We dream of a job which is for life, dream of some stability, but the best we get is some years at a place. Others seem to reach this dream, but often other difficulties arise. But honestly, too many people in this world never get to a satisfactory state. If we would open our eyes, we would see the unbelievable struggle of a large fraction of mankind. And biblical examples add to this struggle. The men of God had to bear a good part of the struggle of this world.

We can walk through the changing times with a worldly view or with a spiritual view. The worldly view adapts to the systems and settings. We might want to become rich in the middle of many poor people or we might want to be famous in the middle of many unknown people. But we also might follow Jesus and open our eyes for the many wonderful creations around us. God has given an eternal dignity to every human. He loves every single individual. He wants everyone to get along, to develop, to grow in love and truth and peace and freedom. [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
