Doubt

Monday, April 27, 2009. We have been talking about proof for God last week. I did not provide proof, put remarked that we need to read and obey the words of Jesus to make progress with our evidence. It is quite clear from many passages of the New Testament that we will not find proof in the scientific sense for God, but that we need to listen to Jesus.

What about doubt in our life? Can doubt appear? Can we come to a state of life where we are driven by doubt? The story of the house built on rock or sand talks about floods and strong winds which will come. There will be difficulties for our life, which can cause doubt. Why is God not helping us? Why are we part of a mankind “in despair”? Why are so many people today in trouble worldwide. Poverty, ill-nesses and wars are still severe problems, even if for many people living in industrially developed countries everything seems to be calm and fine. Today our societies are shaken by the financial crisis and the world economic crises. This is one of the floods Jesus is talking about.

I do not think that every question which come with the floods and winds will be answered. There remain severe questions why the evil is still having so much power. Why is it so difficult to develop a Christian society, communitiy which would be full of the spirit of Jesus? Why is it so difficult to come to a sustainable state for societies? Why is it so difficult to distribute the wealth of nations fairly?

Sometimes, our doubt can be nurished by our own guilt. If we do the wrong things, it is clear that we are not trustworthy and that we cannot develop trust ourselves. If we do not do what Jesus commanded us all to do, we are bound to come into severe trouble! So some answeres can be found when we go to him and understand what he says. [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
