Who is God? (2) A wide view ...

Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Who is God? Today I want to widen my view about what God is. My goal is to just look into both depth and height. We will move very far to the right and very far to the left. We need to look north and south and east and west, need to drill into the earth and travel into the universe, to go into the macroscopic scales and to travel into the microscale. I want to go into the physical world and into the world of our mind and our soul. Who is God? Where is God? What can we say? We need to go back in time until the very beginning of time, and we need to look beyond the future! I want to widen my view.

God is the creator. He has made everything. He controls everything. He can do whatever necessary, whatever he wants. He can follow rules. He can break rules. The rules of nature have been designed by him. He has made it all, including the laws under which our own existence has evolved and develops from our birth to our death. He has made death itself, as he has made life. He is the almighty, the all-powerfull, we call him “the Lord”. He has been there at the beginning of time - in fact he has created time. He has been there when light started to be: “let there be light”. At the beginning he made heaven and earth, the galaxies, the planets and much more. He is everywhere. His range is beyond our imagination. He is there with the far galaxies, the Milky Way, the suns and every planet in this universe. This is the God we are talking about.

But God is also in the microscopic region. He is the smallest, the most tiny. He can see every creature, every cell, every bacterium, every tiny pathway in our brain. We are not able even to imagine how big and powerful God is. He sees every human on this planet - let it be six or eight or ten billion. He even knows all their hopes, all their fears and all their needs. Yes, the God Jesus has been talking about is - to put it plain - “very large”!

The power of God is not the power of being big alone. The amazing thing of his power is that he can be with all the small things. The absolutely fantastic point is that he loves his creation from the very tiny creature to the very big one. He cares about the birds, about the grass, about the plants and every animal. He cares about every human. He cares about every nation. He cares about every group - minorities and majorities. That is a greatness which is beyond being just big. It is a greatness which is the best we could hope for - and a power we long for in our soul as humans. We are many and we want to be known. We are small, and yet everywhere on the earth. As mankind we are made for this God, who cares for every single person, and yet has the power to do this 6 billion times in an instant. What a God! [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
