Change Your Thinking 2 - People in the Presence of God ...

Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Think about your colleagues for a moment, about the people around you. What do you think about them?

Probably, there are some people around you which you appreciate. They might be nice guys. Or they deliver good work. They are reliable. Or you can trust them, they help you, they are friendly. What are the categories which you value most?

How do we think about others? …

There might be other people, which you do not like for whatever reason. Sometimes there are hard facts which support a particular view about another person. Mostly our view is rather biased by personal preferences and our particular personal history.

Some of us are more driven by reason, others more by intuitive processes. Some like an offensive approach, others more the defensive attitude. All the riches of human characters play a role in the process of sympathy and aversion.

Sometimes we might think about someone as arrogant, or as incapable, or as unfair or even dumb etc etc. This is how humans often think about each other - thoughts cannot stay secret, usually they show themselves by the words which people choose when they talk about each other.

How God sees humans

One key point of the New Testament (even of the Old Testament as well) is that God thinks differently about people. He does not follow our usual categories. He has thoughts of love towards every single person on this planet - what ever we do. What ever we say. We might be offensive, defensive, fair or unfair, good or bad - God loves everyone, he has created everyone to live with him!

The New Testament invites us to enter the kingdom of God. Here, in his presence, we are invited to change our thinking about each other. It is the invitation to think the thoughts of God, to feel what he feels. We will discover his love, his deep insight and longing … he wants every single person on the planet to be with him.

Of course, God does not love unfair behavior, he does not love crime. But he loves the people, he can distinguish between the behavior and the person. He sees the possibilities of changing our life, of becoming a new creation by the things he did in and with Jesus.

Starting to live with Jesus is a fantastic adventure, the adventure of discovering his love and his way of thinking … wow! ... more texts
