Goals! Find a Focus ...

Thursday, Jan 13, 2010. There are people, which have a well-set framework for all they do. Perhaps you are on your job for many years already. Everything is well-balanced and works well. But there are other people who do not have such a situation. For them everything is changing, a lot is in movement.

What is important, what is less important? …

When I have many things going on around me, when everything is changing, then I must carry out a selection. I have to set priorities. I need to know what is important and what is less important.

The question for importance can be quite practical, with respect to my profession. Perhaps there are several products or projects. I am involved in three or four of them, perhaps even responsible for these projects. What should be my main concern? Where do I concentrate my forces? What is a basis for my choices? Perhaps all four projects are of importance!

The question to identify what is important can not always be answered. Weights change. Or if something has been neglected for too long, it WILL be important. If there are several things of importance at the same time, I need to find a balance. For example: my job is important, since I earn the money to live with it (and there might be several other important reasons). And my family is important of course. I should also ask at least occasionally, what is important for God. What are his priorities for me? Perhaps that is not clear to me at all. Then it would be a good idea, to start a search. “God, what is important to you?” I can pursue this question. I can go to God in prayer. I can ask other Christians, my church, my pastor … or someone, who knows about this, if I do not attend any church.

To discover God's priorities is a great adventure. He has created the whole earth. He knows us, from the chemistry of our body to the dreams, plans and goals we have. He knows what we need. And yet he sets priorities different from ours sometimes, since he has a wider view. His focus is different, since he sees more.

I see some things again and again with astonishment: even if God thinks differently, he pays attention to what I need and want. He listens to me with my wishes and plans. He is not a machine who would provide answers to my wishes, but he is someone, who pays attention, the huge God and the little human. And he acts - in my sense, in his way, after he truly listened - if he does that, mountains are leveled and a difficult path is is reaching its target! ... more texts
