Sort my life ...

Cleaning up our life …

Our kids tend to leave everything where they drop it. When you want to enter their rooms, you need to step over shirts, skirts, towels and many toys. They have plenty of space, so usually we manage to move around somehow … but I think you got the point.

Do we want to clean up our environment? It is so convenient not to clean up. I have to remember my own office. I had many things on a big desk, paperwork from more than a year. But I did not find time to clean up for quite a while. I was not prepared for it, I did not have the folders to put the papers in, … and there were so many urgent things to do all the time.

But it is important to clean up. Cleaning up needs to be a key part of our routine. Sorting the things we have done and want to do is important, since otherwise we cannot get a clear view on duties, on necessities and priorities.

God wants us to sort …

When I read the New Testament, I understand Jesus that he wants us to clean up. He wants us to tidy our mind, our habits, everything we usually do. He wants to make us new, and me makes us new when we start to follow him. And when we do, we start the cleaning up process!

Now I have opened a bottle which contains much stuff and strong stuff! Thinking more about this cleaning up leads me to habits in my life. How do I change habits which I know that they are not good or productive? It is quite a challenge to change our own habits. When we tend to talk about others too much, how do we change such deep things? When we drink too much, how do we change? There is a lot to say about the tips and tricks to change bad habits.

Also, all the different ways to do things come to my mind. The characters and priorities of how to carry out things, how to pursue a particular task. Some clean up by having every millimeter well-ordered. Others just want the main lines to be fine, they do not care too much about detail. Both can be perfectly OK. I think we need to talk to the Lord and speak with him about our particular personal situation. He will guide us to where we can start and where he wants us to go! ... more texts
