Motivation ...

Friday, January 11, 2013. We have been visiting a large science museum on Wednesday, we spent several hours there looking at the fascinating developments which are shown there. Such science museums exist in many large towns today, in London, Tokyo, Munich, Washington, … And they can be very motivating!

Where does your motivation come from? …

Spending time in the section on spacecrafts, I watched a film on 100 years of development, with interviews and old films, with introductions into the different techniques and applications. Today, we are using these things on a daily basis. In our institute, we are taking the satellite data to calculate the state of the atmospheres and the oceans to calculate a weather and climate prediction.

Sometimes, looking into 100 years of perspective, also puts our motivation in perspective. Our focus can be on some little difficulties in our daily routine. And of course we want to resolve these difficulties. But the real motivation comes from the larger perspective. It comes from the big lines of development, from the big lines of scientific progress. I found back to my motivation, when I looked around in this fascinating science museum.

Where does your motivation for your daily professional work come from? Is it linked to curiosity, to the fascination of your subject? All subjects carry this fascination, we just need to discover it!

Jesus motivates …

**

I have been reading the letter of Hebrews this morning, and I realized that the motivation, which is given in the bible, works in a similar way. Our attention is drawn to the big lines of development, to Jesus, who opened the door to God by his life and death. On this basis, we are called into a different type of community:

23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. (Hebrews 10, NLT)

Thus, it is important to clearly see the big line, the salvation, which Jesus brings. And then, being on the path of faith, we should help each other. We should motivate and stir each other to follow the ways of the Lord, to love and be loved, to be truthful and faithful. On this path, we will discover the miracles of the Lord, day by day!
