Trouble and Wisdom ...

Monday, January 14, 2013. What is your way to deal with real trouble in your life? And how does that link into wisdom? Is wisdom useful for dealing with real trouble? And if yes, what type of wisdom do we talk about and what does it do? How do you use it?

Real trouble …

There are many things where we can get into real trouble. Several people in my immediate environment have real trouble, and partly they had real trouble now for years. That can be an illness, where you do not know the exact cause, but it keeps you from working. It can be an illness which leads to a lot of pain and distress! It can be a sudden death of a partner or loved one. It can be misunderstanding with other people in your company or institute.

How do you deal with these things? What does wisdom have to do with it? First, we need to see that real trouble is real trouble. There are no easy words which can help. When you feel pain, when your life is turned upside down, the first step is to see that life can be like this and that life is painful. I think we should not try to pretend there would not be pain, since pain is real!

When we are in trouble, our brain tends to focus on the problems. It tends to focus on the pain. It tends to focus on the things or person we lost. It tends to focus on the conflict we are facing. That is natural, and we need to put some attention on the pain and trouble. But when our mind is completely absorbed, we also need to see beyond the horizon of our problems. We need to look beyond, need to know that there is more than darkness. Wisdom has to do with this view beyond!

Consolation …

**

What is the basis of a wisdom which looks beyond our darkness? It is the life and death and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. He himself phrases this wisdom as he is faced with death in John 11:

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.e Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” (John 11: 25-26)

Today, we still face death, we still face injustice and many difficult things in our life. We are still in conflicts we do not want and do not like. But there is hope, real hope, beyond. God has shown his power in the life of Jesus, and he has shown it in the resurrection of Jesus. There is more, and we can focus our mind and our heart onto him. Here, with him, we can escape the darkness, where there is no solution and no hope. Here, we can bear and sometimes overcome the trouble we are facing. There is more, in him. And he has power to change our path also today! ... more texts
