Media Overload ...

Friday, Feb 1, 2013. Todays media work in an environment which they call “media overload”. Everyone of us is exposed to many messages day by day. We need to study this phenomenon and talk about the consequences!

Phenomenon Overload …

We have two dozen internet newspapers at our fingertips - if we look into papers relevant for some particular country. There are hundreds of newspapers when you look on an international scale. With two or three languages, which you might be able to understand, you have a wide coverage of topics, of news, of articles, of opinions, of events and important information.

What is important? It is more and more difficult to judge. We get exposure by so many things, that we have difficulties to stay in control. People tend to ignore a good part of reality, if it is too much to deal with. The producers of media channels know this phenomenon - and they try to do something which brings their particular channel into your attention zone.

One typical trick to get attention is to be brighter, or to be louder. Or to be more shocking, stranger than everything else. So many try to get attention and earn more money, more coverage in other media etc etc. Is that the way: to try hard to get the best coverage by being more crazy than others?

Another way …

**

In the Jesus Network, we try another way. We do not want the best coverage. Of course, it is great when hundreds of people join us day by day to think about God, to explore what Jesus said, to pray and to chat. It is fantastic when we have a million page views. But that is not the most important thing - much more important is what we do and how we do it.

Jesus invites everyone, but he was fine with being together with a dozen disciples, and traveling with them through Palestine. He was trying to get away, to spend time in prayer with his heavenly father. He was leading a quality life, not trying to compete with the loud noise of his time - which is even louder today.

We invite people to come to us and be with us, to search the Lord, day by day, be learn from him. We do not pretend to be perfect - we are not. We are just ordinary humans, but with an extraordinary God! There is another way, in contrast to the noise of the media. Let us search Christ, and be with him. ... more texts
