It is great to be with God ...

Monday, June 30, 2014. Perhaps you are someone who is searching to learn from the Lord, to learn wisdom and understanding? Wisdom and understanding is not all - it is only as good as it finds to mercy, truth and love. But it is nevertheless quite valuable, and we find many words of wisdom in the biblical books!

Words of Wisdom …

Sometimes it is just good to read a little bit in the biblical texts. It is good to listen, to try to understand. It is also good to ask: any time you can address the Lord and ask him, if you lack understanding. He will turn to you and open his heart and his mind. Let us read a little in Proverbs 1:

20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you turn at my reproof,1 behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, 25 because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, 27 when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, 30 would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, 31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. 32 For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; 33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” (Proverbs 19, 20-23)

Quite a Promise …

There is quite a promise in the biblical words about wisdom. God promises peace - the peace of the heart and the peace of the mind. There might be a lot of fight in this world, but when we turn to him, when we listen, when we follow, when we believe, then we will find his peace.

God's peace is a deep peace. It is a peace which is beyond this world. It is in the middle of this world, but not from the world. It is not based on worldly security. It is not based on worldly admiration or power. It is based on him, on his power, on his presence alone. Only HE can give this peace.

It is great to be with the Lord. I just took some time to read in the book of proverbs. I took time to talk to him in prayer, and to listen to him - both by reading and in the silence. And it is fantastic when his spirit comes, and when he speaks words of peace and wisdom into my heart. He loves us deeply, and he does not come to destroy, but to help, to support, to encourage and to give us hope. Thank you, Lord. (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
