Consequences of Faith ...

Tuesday, Jan 27, 2015. What will happen if you believe in the Lord? Does faith save you from all problems? Does it mean that your life will always be nice and easy? Let us think for a moment. And let us listen to the experiences of a believer!

What will happen? …

It would be nice, if you could just believe and like an order in some online shopping centre you would just get what you want: a nice and easy life without pain and difficulties. Is that what we get when we start to believe?

There are many reasons, why the fast and easy results cannot be achieved. There are indeed many reasons why it is not good to get these fast and easy results, in general. It might happen, though. It is possible. But it needs special circumstances.

Usually, people of faith have difficult times as well. People of faith have their problems. They face pain and destruction - as all other people. Yet, there are big differences as well. It is not all the same! Life in faith can be so different. Let us resolve this, to some extent at least. Let us listen to what King David wrote about faith and his experiences.

David's Experiences …

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. 5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. 7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. 9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. 10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. 11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! (Psalm 32)

Faith does not mean, that we will be without pain. It can even be the Lord himself, whose hand is hard on us. But he does not want to destroy us. He wants to help us. He wants good things for us, day by day!

David experienced the love and joy of the Lord. He does not stop with the pain. He does not stay in sin, in the separation from the Lord. He turns around, he starts to change, he is going and asks for forgiveness. And he finds truth and love and peace! He finds real joy, deep joy, surpassing joy! He finds a hiding place.
