Love I - Starting Points ...

Saturday, Aug 1, 2015. Love is limitless! In moments where we enjoy love we often tend to use far reaching words about love, about its strength, about its joy. Drawn by romantic feelings or by positive experiences we can be quite enthusiastic about love. But usually we are faced with many difficult situations - either with other people around us or even with loved ones.

The Difficulties in Love …

When you love someone, it does not mean that this person would always do what you want him or her to do. It can be that the loved one fails, that he cheats, that she lies, that he or she is ignorant, selfish and egoistic. Do you drop your love?

Jesus commanded us to love our enemies. In this sense, we are meant to love everyone around us, those who love us, and those who do not love us. We do not only talk about feelings, but about relationships, about decisions, about viewpoints, about our brain and our hands. Love one another means that our relationship to the other person develops all the elements which come with true love. And more than that: it does not only develop the elements, but also the core, the love itself.

People are different. Can you love everyone? Is this more than mere words? Does it mean you should develop feelings towards everyone? And what about men and women? What about the physical component of love? It may play a role in your relationships. But Jesus refers not to sex, but to “agape”, the brotherly love.

The starting point …

What is the starting point to develop love? What is the starting point to develop this special kind of relationship to other people which Jesus referst to and calls us to? How did he do it?

It starts with seeing the other one as a human. It starts with seeing the other one as a human child, as someone who grew up or is growing up, as someone who struggles to find his or her path through life. It starts with looking through some of the repulsive features of the other person. It starts with taking the other serious, within an attitude of souvereignty. Step back and have a look from a more balanced standpoint. And then start to search for the steps which really help the other person.

It is an adventure to explore love. This is true for romantic love as well as for the “agape”, for the brotherly love, for the love which Jesus calls us to. And as always when you put effort into something, it starts to become more and more fascinating, starts to be even greater than it seemed to be from a remote viewpoint. Let us restart our life today: Love, and experience love! Start your own love adventure by starting to love your enemies, today is the day! (RWEP) ... more texts
