Faith II - His Way ...
Tuesday, Aug 11, 2015. When we talk about faith, we talk about a fantastic God, about the creator of this world, about the source and the goal of all what is. God knows us, he wants us, he loves us - this is fantastic and has deep meaning!
His Way …
Often, we have our own ideas about our life. We want to reach this or that. We think we understood how life works, and what you have to do. We try to establish ourselves in our life. But Jesus puts a sincere warning into our way (Matth 10,39): 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
In my understanding Jesus wants us to be linked to the true life, to being a true human by living in a relationship with God through him. He wants to free us from dependencies on worldly things, which develop so quickly. It is not the most important thing to have money, to have fame, to be successful, to be bright or powerful. No, it is not. To put such things into the first place just leads us into what Jesus calls spiritual death!
25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that
you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;
26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11, 25-30)
The Gods of this World …
There are so many Gods of this world. And we tend to worship them - explicitly or implicitly. There are the gods of power, the gods of wealth, the gods of success, the gods of money, the gods of influence, the gods of beauty. And when we examine ourselves in an honest way, we will discover our own dependencies.
But there is also the eternal God, there is the allmighty creator, full of truth, love and mercy. He wants us to be free in the sense that we are not dependent on the worldly Gods. Of course we live within this world, of course we have responsibility for money, we have some influence, we have beauty, some wealth, some success, some power. But we are meant to have the living God to take the lead, not the worldly Gods.
Jesus invites us to come to him. To do so, we need to let go. We need to accept, that worldly Gods cannot give us true life, real life. We need to take the yoke of Jesus, need to follow him, his words, his commands, his truth, his love and mercy! (RWEP) ... more texts
