A place of Trust and Protection ...

Tuesday, Feb 23, 2016. Sometimes you need help. We all know the situation where we need a big brother who comes and rescues us from some unpleasant situation. It is good to have friends who are able and willing to help. It is good if they can come quickly when we are in trouble.

Kids and Adults …

When you see little kids, you know exactly what I am talking about. When they see trouble coming, they cry for their parents. When they are afraid, they look for their dad or their mom. Usually, they know that they are well protected. They are willing to take risks, since they have always been saved. They have a mom or a dad watching over them.

How can adult life be? Are you responsible for yourself? Who is there for your protection? Are we alone? Usually, we are relying on the state to protect us. We hope for police, justice departments, for the army. We rely on some part of the community to provide the protection we need, from thieves, from fraud, from violence. It is highly exciting to look at our human life and our ideas about a protected place, how we live and how we try to make it happen. Our heart longs for a secure place, where we are fully appreciated, where we are save, where we are told the truth and where we find love.

How empty is the world? Is this place somewhere, in some particular country? Is it in some particular community? Is it in our heart, our ideals, our skills? Is it to be found in family? Is it in some partnership, between a man and a women? Is it somewhere else? Where is this save place? Where is the place of trust and protection? Can we, the adults, find it the same way as we had it in our early childhood or in our deep dreams? Can our desire be met?

Yes …

The bible describes God, the source and continuing maintainer of the universe. He is not an abstract God, not just a force, not just a mental state. He is a personal God, we hear the story of father, son and holy spirit. He is relationship. And he is action. Nothing is impossible for God, and he is searching a relationship to us, he wants to be there with us in everything! He wants to be the helper, the keeper, the sustainer. He wants to be our security, he and nothing else! Let us listen to Psalm 121, where we hear far reaching promises:

1 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalm 121)

Challenge the Lord for his trust and his help. You need to put your trust in. You need to take the risk of his ways being deeper than your ways. The risk is worth it, the risk to be full of trust, of truthfulness and faith. Challenge the Lord with your faith, with your trust. Ask him to help you, to show you, to be your sustainer and keeper. He will neither slumber nor sleep - you will see! (RWEP) ... more texts
