Enjoy and be rich in good works ...

Thursday, May 11, 2017. The Christian concept of life is to enjoy the grace and love of the eternal father - and to live in it. We are determined to be full of truth and love and joy, just because he is fantastic. This is in conflict with a world which has lost contact to him - causing all kinds of problems. This conflicts are not only external - they are also in us.

We are part of the world which has lost contact. At the same time through faith and the holy spirit we are part of the community of father, son and holy spirit. All these elements are discussed and addressed in the New Testament. They are part of “daily struggle” and they are called the “good fight of faith”.

Here, our own personality, our will, our decisions, all what we are is part of Christian life. We are to be “rich in good works”. Let us go back to the text we have been reading two days ago … there is much more to be discovered here:

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. Joy …

It is remarkable that Paul states: God is richly providing us with everything to enjoy. It nearly sounds like a modern philosophy of life. And it is against all who think that faith is something generating strange people who do not know how to enjoy worldly things. But we do, we are full of joy, when we follow the New Testament.

It is also joy to live true life. It is just a very free life. It discovers the faithfulness of God. It discovers his mercy, his joy, his creativity, his fidelity. And he is there, he can change so many things in our life and our environment - if we just ask him to be there. He wants us to want him, we are not robots, but humans, made in his image!

God, my God! Let us be full of your freedom, for all what we do. Let us be full of your joy. Open our eyes - you have given so much. You have made a world full of astonishing wonder.
