Bow my Knees ...
Monday, July 17, 2017. Do you sometimes feel the need to bow before God? Do yo feel the need to tell him that he is great, and that you fully acknowledge that you need him, his wisdom, his guidance, his forgiveness, his love?
When we look into our life, and what we do, what we feel, what we hope for and dream of … what is it that builds our inner core? What is it that keeps us upright, that keeps us going, that helps us? What is our hope built upon? Where is our strength coming from?
Strengthened …
Where is your strength coming from? What do you see? What do you feel? In the letter to the church in Ephesus the apostle Paul talks about the spirit, about the father, and that he is the source of all our strength, of all what we have. Listen!
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, … (from Ephesians 3)
The strength Paul talks about comes from inside. It is not an external strength. It is not the strength of power, of money, of muscles. It is not the strength of our relationships either, not the strength of knowing the right people, or having a sound marriage, or being in the right network. No! It is the strenght of the spirit, of the holy spirit, when he works in us. It is the strength of the love of God, who is with us. It is the strength of his truth, of his trustworthiness, of his eternal character and existence.
Riches of his Glory …
Where is the glory of God? Where do we find it? In our society, we do not find it. People admire all different kind of things, but the glory of God is not obvious. Most people cannot see or perceive anything of God. They think he does not exist.
Yet, the glory of God is everywhere in creation. He has put his image on all of them, on every single creature. This is why we are tempted to honour humans, they bear his sign. We are all made in the image of the most high. We are all made to be princes and princesses in the kingdom of the creator. We are of unbelievable value. This is why crimes count so much for him - they are crimes against his sons and daughters.
There is so much to be learned from him. The word of God, the bible, is full of insight, full of wisdom, full of love, full of good advice. It is stories of humans, those who walked with him, and others who left him. In full truth, the characters are described. In full truth their fate, their faith, their destiny, their experiences are told. Above and in all of this, we find God's glory. It is in his word - and then in the life of all who follow his word, who live with him. Let us open our eyes, and see! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
