Source of all ...

Thursday, Oct 5, 2017. God is the source of all. We know that he is the creator. But he is more. When we look into the biblical books, God is described as the one who holds the whole world. He is above all, in all, beyond all. He sees all. He provides all. There is nothing which could happen without him knowing it before. Looking into the life of David, we will explore fascinating words.

Greatness …

God is the source of all in this creation. He is our creator. All what is great is his. Let us look into the prayer of David as written down in 1 Chronicles 29, where he puts God's greatness into the center of his attention:

10 Therefore David blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 13 And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chron. 29, 10-13)

There is a lot to learn from these few lines. There is a lot to discover - here in the text, but more than that: in your life and in my life. We are invited to discover God, the eternal God, who is there in our life as well. He wants to be the great God who he has been from the beginning!

Discover a great God …

Humans are fantastic beings. We are given strength, we are given many talents. We are given some type of dignity and majesty ourselves. When you study humans, it is truly quite remarkable. You discover great strenght, will, endurance. There are fantastic and great moments in the life of many humans. You also discover very cruel behavior, evil, unbelievable deeds. How can humans do that to each other?

But David guides our view to the Lord. He looks at the source, the creator. He also sees that his power is not limited to a distict creation, which took place long ago. Still today, he is the source of all strength. He is the ruler. He has all in his hands. He remains the owner of the heaven and the earth. He is a great father!

Riches and honor come from him. Our weekness comes from him, when he tries to guide us to a sustainable view on ourselves and on this earth. He is the one who creates. We are creation, we are to be his children, living in love, equipped with talent, given responsibility. We are to be truthful and full of love. We are to be faithful and full of faith.
