Tuesday, March 31, 2009. We have started to explore the cross of Jesus. What is it about? Why do you need such a terrible sign, with a person dying at a piece of wood? Why is that so important? Why did God make the choice to use the cross as his central symbol?

Currently there is the big trial going on in Cambodia, against the former bosses of the Khmer Rouge. They killed thousands or even million of people in an extremely cruel way. This was just 30 or 40 years ago, the people are still living, their victims are mostly dead, slaughtered in an unbelievable way. But their relatives are living and crying for justice!

When we are looking into human history, we find unbelievable injustice and cruelty. The cry for justice is yelling in our ears. It is so loud from these crimes, that other cries are not heard any more about less spectacular ways of injustice engraved into our global economic system or into our own society just around the corner.

All these things are summarized by God in the cross of Jesus. The cross of Jesus is an event in world history, where God's son himself went into the cruelty of humans. God's son Jesus, free of guilt, died under the hands of his fellow humans. God knew exactly what men are capable off. He knew our cruel nature. And he answered it with the love of his son at the cross, bringing justice in his death, in pain and sacrifice. [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
