6 Billion Helpful People.
Monday, May 11, 2009. I have been travelling through Japan recently. It is a fascinating country. I like the people, in particular when you get into some deeper interaction with them. I worked at a university, spend time with one of the small Christian churches in Japan, met people from one of the large Japanese companies and followed personal invitations. People tend to be very friendly and careful, concerned to be helpful and to carry out their duties with accuracy. Everything is clean and attentively arranged.
One thought about the people of this earth has been following me now for quite some time. We are 6 billion people currently, it might be even more already. That is a 6 with 9 zeros, 6000 million people. Who can apprehend such a large number of individuals, forming little communities and larger societies. I marvel God's capacity to see every single one of them - every thought, every action, every concern and every hope!
Life can be hell when the 6 billion people fight each other. Life can be heaven on earth when 6 billion people help each other. This rule applies to any size of community or society: we might be two in our partnership, five in our family, 10 in our working group or 200 in our church. It leads to either fear or hope. When we help each other, then more people means more help. Thats wonderful!
Imagine where ever you go you will be able to find people who are friendly and help you. What a prospect! Assume that where ever you live there are others who want to join you with the task to make living as good as possible for everyone in the community. What a joy! We cannot blame God for the problems we have on earth, most of them are man-made. Our problems arise from decisions of individuals and societies, from thousands and millions of such decisions everywhere on this fantastic planet. So the point where we need to start changing things is the origin of our own decisions, our heart. Jesus is doing exactly the right thing, not starting big revolutions, but starting to change our heart on a daily basis. [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
