Vision for Education 2 - Find God through education?...

Friday, Mar 12, 2010. We are exploring what education can and should be. Let us open our mind and our heart - and try to learn about God's idea of education, about the role eduation plays and can play for his people.

We should not be bounded too much by what society has done in the past. Society has always been conservative. In particular, the church tended to be conservative and stick to patterns which have more been influenced by social processes than by God and his word. However, before we go further with our discussion of education, we want to make one thing 100% clear.

Is education needed to find God?

What is the role of education for salvation? Do you need particular education, training or knowledge to find God? There are many philosophies, which promise salvation as the result of particular practices. You are told that you will find a new state of existence by meditation, for example.

However, the Christian faith has a completely different idea of finding God. You cannot find God by any special education. You cannot find him by training. It is not a matter of knowledge. It cannot be bought by money, not by any particular sacrifice, not even by good deeds. You can try everything, you might even win the world, be the finest soul on the planet - all that will not help you to find God! Also, education will not help you to find him, you might just be confused by too much knowledge. But how do you find him, then?

Find God by grace through Jesus

God has decided that he can be found by grace through Jesus. It is grace only. You cannot earn it by anything you could do. The message of the New Testament is clear: he has done everything which is necessary. Your sole role is to accept what he has done. Who does not receive the kingdom of God as a child, cannot enter it! It is grace through Jesus. He died to clear the way for you. All your actions, your emotions and thoughts, which might separate you from God, have been absorbed into his death at the cross. There, everything dies which separates you from God. In his resurrection you are given new life, you are given faith, you are made clean and you are born afresh as a new creation. It is “in him” - you will find yourself to be completely renewed in him.

Education is needed as it is needed to guide and educate a child. From its earliest days a baby needs attention, care and education. It needs to learn to crawl, to walk, to talk, to think, to argue, to understand and explore the world. We are children in God's kingdom. As children we need his education.
