Change Your Thinking 4 - Living together ...

Friday, September 17, 2010. How are we living together? What is shaping the way we interact, the way we think about each other, the way we talk to and about each other? A society is more than a set of rules. It is people living together on many levels, in a partnership, in a family, in a neighborhood, in a company, in an institute, in a town etc etc.

The way of Jesus …

Jesus invites us into a new way of community. He wants our relationships to be based on truth, on trust and on love. His goals and guidance is worked out in the new testament in many speeches and in his actions in various circumstances. The basis of our forgiveness is his own death at the cross, where God's forgiveness for us is established and shown publicly.

The approach of the New Testament is extremely interesting. It tells us that our relationships to other people should be based on our renewed relationship to God. It puts God and our relationship to him first. Then, on this basis, our relations to people will change.

Living together following the New Testament means to live with the Lord and then bring his love, his trust, his dedication into our interaction. But what does this mean in practice?

One of them turned out to be a woman who had been hurt many times over the past years. She was a public figure in a difficult and controversial environment. Her opinions did not find resonance in a part of the society and some neighbor countries. People attacked her, and the attacks led to counter speech from her side, with new insults arising.

How does God want to solve such a conflict? I think that he first wants to heal our injuries. He himself want to do that, he wants to be with us with our pain and our past, and he wants to heal the wounds and to change our emotions and our feelings towards them.

When God's healing comes to us, we will change our attitude towards other people. He will change our attitude in particular towards those people who were responsible for our pain, for our injuries. When we feel the healing, our words will change as well. We will not cause further uproar, we will not continue to hurt the others. ... more texts
