Why read the Life Story of Jesus? ...

Monday, Jan 17, 2011. Are you interested in life stories or biographies? Many of us today are. Every politician is writing his biography. There are authors concentrating on some particular important person. We want to know how others lived and what happened to them!

Jesus Life Story …

The New Testament is the second part of the bible, starting with four gospels. Each gospel is a collection of stories, reports, words of Jesus and the people around him. They tell the life story of Jesus, who is also called “the Christ” or Jesus of Nazareth.

Why should we read the life story of Jesus? For biographies in our bookstores this question is usually answered by marketing. On the cover the things are named which make the person unique. The book companies know exactly what they can use to attract our attention!

Is it different when we talk about Jesus? On one level it is not different. We need some arguments or observations which make us interested in him. He has been the most influential person in world history … is that enough for you? Or you are bored, since politics is not your area. But he has much more to give than influence! He was pulling himself out of the stream of politics. He claimed to be a king of hearts, given by free will!

Who is he? …

Who is Jesus? What do we know about him? What do people say? What can we find out? We want to read the gospels together. We want to go through the New Testament jointly, here in the Jesus Network. We want to collect comments, opinions and experiences.

How do you find out who Jesus is? Perhaps you ask some experts? But who is the real expert, who knows? We might not be interested in some academic exercise, but in some practical knowledge!

The bible claims that Jesus has been risen, that he is with God and that the Holy Spirit is around, that it wants to be with us. That is a completely different story from a normal biography.
