Tuesday, Feb 22, 2011. We are talking about the word 'faith', about what it means and how it is used in the bible. Also, we use the work belief in different ways.

Ideals…

3. Faith is used when we talk about ideals. Someone believes in humanity. Or someone believes in human rights, love, progress, in some particular person … “I believe in …” means: it is a target for me, or an ideal, or a guidance!

Christian faith knows this type of belief. We belief in Jesus Christ, we believe in the love of God, we believe in God's commands …

But this idealistic faith does not constitute Christian faith! The idealistic faith is part and consequence of Christian faith, but the bible talks about something else, when it talks about faith in Jesus!

Trust …

4. In the New Testament the word “faith” means “trust”! This is known also in our normal environment. I trust in someone, I believe him. I think that it is trustworthy what he says and promises.

Biblical faith has a lot of this personal trust, which we indicate when we say “I believe him”. Faith is trust in the person Jesus Christ!

But the trust of Christian faith is much more than the trust we put into another human! Our trust in others can only be related to parts of our life. It is limited, since humans are limited naturally!

Biblical faith is much more than trust in another human! The point is to trust our whole person, with all what we are, what we have, our thoughts and goals, into the hands of God. He is the center of life! ... more texts
