Rest with him ...

Wednesday, Aug 22, 2012. One particular feature of our modern society is a type of restlessness. We are busy. We are active. We measure value based on activity and productivity. Accomplishments are leading our judgement. But that is not a healthy attitude!

Resting. Everything is good. …

God wants to lead us into a state where we rest with him. He invites us to come to him and find peace. In the New Testament we find famous words of Jesus, where he invites us to come to him, everyone with a troubled heart.

When we take care of a baby, we do not demand anything. Babies can only eat and drink, cry and be happy. We take care of a baby - not because of its achievements, but just because we love it. Everything is good, no action is needed!

A healthy mind is one who rests in itself and in God. It is a mind which is completely in peace with itself and with God. Healing means to come to this state, in a sustainable manner. Healing means to come to peace and to rest in the Lord, forever …

Jesus' invitation …

Jesus is offering peace to us. In Matthew 11 he says: 28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

One of the key points here is that with Jesus we are completely accepted. We get into his rest. Here, everything is good. The dreams of our childhood are fulfilled. Our fears cease. We are who we are, full of value and wonder - every single human a miracle. We are served and loved. It is unbelievable!

When the gospel reaches your heart and your mind, it is as if the world shakes. Coming to his rest changes everything. Our life is fulfilled. Our existence full of purpose. The fog in our mind is gone, and a clear fresh new day is ahead of us. Great! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
