Healing Story ...

Monday, Oct 8, 2012. Recently, I have been thinking about a healing story. It is one of the stories, where Jesus meets someone who is ill, and then he is asked to do something, and he first says: “yours sins are forgiven”. And then he heals the guy.

Key points? …

What is the main point of the healing story? Is it that someone is healed, a historical report? Or is it that Jesus can heal? A general statement about possibilities and capabilities of Jesus? Is it that Jesus wants to heal? He seems to want to be asked as well …

Some people take healing stories as an encouragement, that God wants to help and that he can heal. They take it as an encouragement to pray for healing and to hope for healing.

Other people do not see this point. They see more the figurative meaning, that healing is first a healing of the soul. Healing is forgiveness, before the body is healed. Healing is just a sign, just indicates that Jesus comes to heal our relationship to God!

Faith and Healing …

Without doubt, the healing stories in the New Testament talk about faith as a key point. Healing is important - Jesus is the great healer and he was upset when his disciples could not heal. But we learn as well, that healing is just a sign pointing to what is yet to come. The kingdom of heaven started, but it is not yet completed. We do not live in a world free of pain and death!

But the healing stories point beyond the pain and death of this world. Faith is looking beyond. We see much more than we would be able to see if our eyes are bound to the earth only. Healing stories are important stories to tell us, that this world is not everything …

We long for healing. We desire healing. We need healing. There is nothing around healing. Our relationship to the most high needs healing. Our body needs healing. Our soul and our mind need healing. Faith starts to see this need, and faith starts to take part in the healing. In fact, faith is a good part of the healing process already … that is fantastic indeed. A miracle of healing.
