Glorious Hope and Inheritance ...

Friday, Feb 21, 2014. Faith is an interesting thing. What is it? What is happening when you believe? Some think that it is only an illusion. But faith changes so many things in your life. Indeed, it changes YOU!

Thanks for your faith! …

The apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Ephesus, writes about the thanks which he gives to God day by day for the faith of his brothers in Christ. And he writes about this faith, about the blessing which it is and which it brings into our life:

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, […] (Ephesians 1, 15-18)

Paul talks about the eyes of our heart, which are enlighted. This is one of the key things which faith carries out. It opens the eyes of our heart - and suddenly we see! It is a view which is wide into the hidden foundations of this world, a view which can see the hope we are called to.

Inheritance …

Paul also talks about inheritance, and that fits the words of Jesus about us being kids of the Most High. We are heirs of Christ. In him we are part of the family, and we are given all what belongs to the family members. The Holy Spirit is bringing the full riches of Christ's wisdom into our mind. So we have an open treasure which is there in us to be taken, to be realized, to be lived!

It is not that every Christian would automatically live the wisdom of Christ, even if it is there right in him or her. We have our own will, and we have our habits, which are shaped by a world which is far away from the Lord. But it is there to be taken. It is there to be developed. It is there to be lived, day by day. There is joy, which we can take. There is even power, in Christ, which we need to say no to all what tries to pull us away from the love and truth of the Lord.

Come to faith, if you have not gone the step to trust your life to Christ! And then, when his spirit comes and opens your inner eyes, start to live his fantastic treasures. In Christ you are heir, son or daughter of the First and the Last, what a promise, what a joyful reality today! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
