Love is in the Air ...

Finding Myself …

Some people identify themselves with a particular activity. Someone is the well-known singer Shakira, or the football world champion Philipp Lahm. Many of us use their professional work as identifying building block for what they are.

What is it that comes to your mind, when you complete the sentence “I am …”? Do you say: “I am a singer”? Or “I am a businessmen”? Or I am a good doctor? Or “I am a scientist”? “I am the owner of a small business, I am good in this?” Or “I am an entertainer - my show is fantastic”? Or do you say: “I am a looser.”? Or do you say “I am good”. Or “I am a leader”? What is it that determines who you are and what you are?

The biblical invitation is quite different. We are invited to be those who live in the love of God. We are invited to be someone, who is loved by him and has accepted this love. We are invited to be identified as “his people” - nothing else.

Love is in the Air …

God's love is there for us. It is a very practical love. It is a love which wants to set our life on a sound basis. It wants to fill our life. It wants to free our life. It does, indeed! When we trust our life into his hands, he does a lot of good things with it. We might not remain the same, but what we are changed into is fantastic! His love is there, and it becomes the dominating influence in our life.

Often, people try to judge “God's love” from how their life works currently. They want success or a smooth ride. If there are problems, they think that God's love is not with them. But that is not true. God wants to be there with us in the middle of all our trouble. He never said we would not experience difficulties any more. But he promised to help us with all what we do.

To discover God's love in the middle of the storm, or in the desert, is one of the higher training exercises of a faith life. Jesus has shown us how to do it - and he has also given us the promise that we will experience his power when we trust him. Let us go this path today and tomorrow! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
