Secular View versus Faith View II ...

Tuesday, Oct 7, 2014. We can go through our day with a purely secular view. We can live as if there would be no God. We can plan and speak and do - and forget that we ever heard about the most high, about the creator, about the source of all what is! But it can also be different …

How do I go through my day? …

The world is given to us as a place to live in, as a place to plan, to do, to interact. Clearly, we are part of the world. All what we know and what we think is influenced by what we know about the world, by our environment, by the people which surround us. It is possible to live in this world without any knowledge about the living God.

We know that there are many religions in this world. It seems that humans somehow have a deep knowledge that there is more than just the world. There is also the philosophy of atheism, which denies the existence of a God. And there are different religions which are convinced of different types of Gods to be there, in and above the world. Humans are religious, they somewhere know about things beyond! The bible says that eternity is given into our hearts (Ec 3, 11).

Our plans can be based on the things within this world only. They can build on our knowledge about natural sciences, about the laws and rules which are there to drive this world. With these rules, we can plan. We can build. We can construct and be creative. All this can be done within this world.

Go with him …

But there is more. God is there, above this world, but also in this world. He is there with his holy spirit. He is there with his angels. He is there himself, in a deep and unknown way, right next to us, day by day. Jesus promised to his disciples (Mt 28, 20) that he will be with them til the end of the world.

God is there, and God has all the possibilities to interact with our life. He has all the freedom, to do good things in our life. He wants to be our company. He wants to be our guide. He can fill us with creative and good ideas, on all levels of our existence. He can give us good words, when it comes to our friends, to our colleagues and co-workers, and also when we have difficulties with some people. We know that he wants peace, but also justice and prosperity for all of us!

There is such a tremendous difference between the secular view and the faith view, when it comes to living your daily life. When the holy spirit comes, he fills our heart with joy and with hope. The holy spirit is not empty. It is not just a dry decision maker. He is not a commander only, though he sometimes gives clear guidance and even clear commands. But he is councillor. He is helper. He is a team-mate, someone who is full of playfulness, full of joy. He opens our eyes for the beauty of things around us.

God, we need you! We need your presence. Without you, we starve. Without you, we become dry and empty. Bitterness is there when you do not heal us. Desperation is there when you do not give hope and life and eternity into our heart and our mind! Be with us, fill us today, holy Lord! Come with your guidance, with our love, with your hope and your joy - and then let us rejoice in you and with you! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
