History is Yours ...

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. History is continuing. Human history is to some part characterized by the great lines of development. An example is the rise of the internet, which is today shaping our life strongly - both personally as well as our business world. But human history is much more: it is your history.

You are history …

History is yours. It is your personal history, your daily life, your hopes, your dreams, your success and your pain as well. You are history. There is no history which would not be yours!

Often we have a slightly strange idea of history being made by very few people only. And yes, some of us discover things which others did not do or discover before. That can be like a crossing of some roads, with decisions to go in one direction and not into another. But the history is also the way which then follows. It is the daily use of things. It is the further development of things. It is the life which relies on food and drink and sleep and shelter and clothing and security and work.

All innovation needs a breeding environment. And it is there for the people who use it. Our prosperity, our well-being is based on people doing their work. Only with the daily work of many we can live and do! Only with all of us we get what we need.

God's focus on individuals …

It is highly interesting how God himself views history. He has always focused on individuals. He has presented himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He sees the suffering of every individual. He has promised and given his spirit, to live in humans, to be with them. He even became human in Christ Jesus - a human as all the others. He loves the individual human being - you and me.

3 And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. 7 Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, (Exodus 3, 3-7)

God's view into history is much healthier than our human view onto it, which is drawn into excitement about the wrong things. Nothing against innovation, I am excited as well about it. I am strongly excited. But it is only a small part of the story. There is much more: the social framework of all we do. And our individual path with God (or without him). History is not an abstract thing, not something of rare individuals, but history is you and history is yours! (RWEP) ... more texts
