Mo, Jan 4, 2016. Sometimes we think that God is not real. Indeed, many people live like this: without God, thinking that the idea of God is a mere illusion. Many people have lived like this, throughout all history. It is nothing special today. And it even the bible declares that it is possible to live without God - it is just something which does not lead to much good! But why not?

Love waiting …

Mankind has been created to live with God. We have been created to be with him. We need him - in the depth of our soul. Without being filled by him, without being loved by him, we cannot find lasting peace. We need him to tell us: I want you, I hold you, I am there for you. We need him to be our mother and our father! Without him, we replace his role by others or by things or goals, with devastating results.

Even the Old Testament communicates this invitation, to come to the Lord. We are called to come and to listen and to walk in his wisdom. Let us listen to Psalm 1 again:

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Dimensions of Love …

God is there, with his love, waiting for us. He is there, and he wants to do good to us. He wants to support us, to help us, to guide us. Are we prepared and open to receive his eternal, unconditional and deep love? Do we have a sense of what it can be? Do we have an open heart? Is our mind prepared to understand?

As humans we often have a twisted understanding of love. Some think it is pure sexuality. Others mix their desires with love. Others again mix it with beauty or with passion. And love can be linked to all these, to sexuality, to desires, to beauty, to passion. But it is wider and deeper. And it is not just misusing the other person, but to love means to fully support the other individual, to work towards its best.

Love takes the other person serious. It does not impose your own will to the other person, but starts communication, a real conversation and exchange. Your personality will change the other person, her or his personality will change you. Being in love with God has sincere impact on you, but also on him. What a perspective for your life, day by day!
