Recalibration ...
Wednesday, Feb 3, 2016. Sometimes we realize that we need to recalibrate our life. Things have gone into a direction which we do not want. And we become aware that we need to go into another direction. Usually, we need to search and think to find out what exactly is not what we want. We can describe the phenomena, but not their sources. And the goals are not fully clear, where do we need to go and how?
The Setup …
What is a basic setup for our life which is sustainable and good? What is a basic setup which is able to fill us with peace and joy? Things that can hold and save us are beyond our direct environment. God himself is there - he has always been there, but in a way hidden from our eyes and our perception. We are invited to receive open ears and open eyes, and become fully aware of the presence of the creator, the origin of life and love, truth and kindness!
Jesus was drawn into a discussion about what is important to do. He was asked: what is important to keep and to hold on to. Here is what he said:
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. 33
And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself,
is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions. (Mark 12, 31ff)
Get changed …
How is this interacting with your life? We are often in the middle of many things, of projects, of production, of administration. We are interacting with many different people, our employees and our line managers, with responsible people and with those who just have to carry out their work. We are in the middle of all the trouble which this interaction brings with it.
In the middle of all our trouble we are invited to love God, and to love the others. In the middle of unjust behavior, of ignorance, of affront and insult. People are not necessarily full of justice, understanding and kindness. This is not what we find and face. But we can do differently, in the power of the Holy Spirit as a helper and supporter we are invited to search for a different route! It is not said that it would be easy, that we would not face strong resistence. But we hear a clear commandment, and a continuing encouragement throughout the whole New Testament!
Let us pursue the love of God, and the love of our neighbor as ourselves, with all or heart! (RWEP) ... more texts
